I had the pleasure of working with Arthur Gignilliat, Senior when he was the founding president of Dalton Junior College (now Dalton State College). He was very kind to mentor a young Academic Dean. When I was 17 years old, I was fortunate to be hired as a part-time employee in the SEPCO Personnel department. Mr. Gignilliat personally came to welcome me to the company and I never forgot his warmth and kindness, traits I thought all Presidents and CEOs would have throughout the long career ahead of me. Sadly, I never met another leader who cared about his or her team as much as Mr. Gignilliat. He was truly in a rarefied league. My deepest condolences to the family as you mourn his loss.

I read through some of these nice post about Uncle Arthur. I will add that he was as kind and nice at home as in public. A genuine man through and through. When I was between 8-11, Uncles Arthur allowed us kiddos to join him at the state capital to be a page. This was an opportunity for us to service the House running errands for the Congressional members. While on the House floor the member would push a button paging for assistance. We would run an errand like get coffee, food, cigarettes (lol), and paperwork. We had our picture made with the governor (Jimmy Carter and Joe Frank Harris) and the speaker of the House. Those were some unforgettable visits. Years later when I was working for the State, Uncle Arthur would meet me for lunch as at the time he was President of the Board of Regents. Always enjoyed conversation with Uncle Arthur and Aunt Molly. Mom and I were fortunate to visit a few times these last two years. We had a great time reminiscing. He will be greatly missed. Arthur was the Dean of the Chatham Delegation and was one of the most respected members of the 180 members of the Georgia House of Representatives. Many times I looked to Arthur for guidance and advice. He was a true giant and I will miss him dearly. RIP my friend

I did not see this, until now. I would have come to the funeral for many reasons. Arthur helped my family when he was in the general assembly with getting medical care for my father, as well as when we first opened the Georgia Advocacy Office. He was an early believer in the possibility of our work. A steady hand, steady voice, and steady heart. My condolences to all. We have lost a gentle giant of a man.
